Project 1
Title: Untitled Size: 121.92 cm x 121.92 cm Medium: Oil painting on canvas Completion: July 2023 Exhibition Text This Untitled piece was created to reflect on the concept of the “inner child,” along with the vulnerability and naivety that lies within the body during recovery from childhood trauma. The inner child is most often viewed as a psychological connection between the self, vivid memories of early youth, and the authentically childlike version of that individual. In this oil painting, I wanted to portray the body of a trauma survivor as a dome that is designed to enclose and protect this small, young, and fragile being, as though it were an actual, physical child. While creating this painting, I found myself inspired by the unique oil painting techniques and depiction of young girls by artists Dorothea Tanning and John Singer Sargent, which together showcase their ability to demonstrate the beauty of innocence and curiosity in children. This piece is quite special to me and serves as a personal reminder to take better care of myself for the sake of my inner child, who deserves to be nurtured and reintroduced to all the world has to offer, in spite of her past experiences. |
