Industrial Design (MIAD)
Exhibition Text
My outdoor classroom design is a project completed with the help of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and is my first ever attempt at industrial design. I planned the overall concept of this design with consideration of my personal interests, but mainly the needs of other students in my high school and their parents. My presentation proposes that my high school implements an outdoor classroom with a small extended area dedicated to preserving students’s mental health and utilizing the benefits of mindfulness and the outdoors without needing to entirely separate them from their learning environment. Inspired by the contemporary, yet naturalistic designs created by Bjarke Ingels, and the sense of safety and community established by Cevan Castle’s modern style Little Free Library, this space would allow students to refresh their minds by tending to and/or enjoying a nearby garden, picking out or sharing a new book.
